BF series

Single Screw Extruders

The single screw extruders from BF are an important component in an extrusion line for the production of  pipes made of HDPE, LDPE, PP, PB, ABS and PS. The product range comprises extruders with screw diameters from 60 to 120 mm.
Single screw extruders offer the following benefits:
  • High throughput rates
  • Low melt temperatures
  • Good melt homogeneity
  • Wide range of processing application

Grooved feed bush
For extrusion of polyolefin pipes, the single screw extruders are equipped with a grooved feed bush. Combination with a barrier screw allows high plastification rates to be achieved.

Twin Screw Extruders

Twin screw extruders are an important component for the extrusion of PVC. The product range comprises extruders with screw diameters from 68 to 107 mm.

Maintenance-free screw temperature control system
The screws have a closed internal heat balancing system which ensures an improved exchange of heat between the different zones of the screw.

  Vertical feeders
The twin screw extruders are equipped with vertical feeders for processing of a very wide range of different formulations, and to be able to compensate fluctuations in bulk density between the batches. They permit underfeeding, full feeding or a stuffing of the material.

Specific output
A high specific output always means a high material throughput at low screw speeds. This results in low shear stresses, gentle plasticising and low screw wear. The increase in output also means an increase in screw torque. Longer screws and barrels are required in order to maintain a constant dwell time.

Dies for Polyolefin Pipe Extrusion

Lattice basket dies are employed in the extrusion of HDPE, LDPE, HMW-PE, PP, ABS and PS as they are unaffected by changing material viscosities.
 
But they also have other benefits:
  • Low pressure build-up and low melt temperature, even with high throughputs
     
  • Good homogenization thanks to the double diversion of the melt
     
  • Consistent product quality for all pipe sizes
     
  • Constant processing characteristics over the full range of materials

Foam Core dies

The concept of the co-extrusion adapter permits the production of foam core pipes (reduction in pipe weight) and pipes with compact middle layer (produced from inexpensive reclaim).
The special design of the adapter allows the use of either one or two co-extruders for the compact inner and outer layer.
 

  The middle layer of the pipes can be manufactured from low-cost reclaim and PVC-foam. Various systems are available for the addition of the blowing agent. When using powder blowing agents, twin screw metering units are used to ensure the precise addition of the agent.

Haul off units

 

BF has three basic types of pipe haul-offs in its product range:

   
 

Multiple caterpillar haul-offs units
for thin-walled and larger diameter pipes

The machines are equipped with 4 or 6 caterpillars and are suitable for pipes with outside diameters between 20 and 800 mm. Separate AC servo drives on each caterpillar ensure a uniform distribution of the haul-off force to all the caterpillars, avoiding strains in the drive chain.

 

 

Other performance features:

 

  • Rubber pads vulcanized directly onto the chain links

  • Generously dimensioned pneumatic cylinders ensure high haul-off forces even with low coefficients of friction between pads and pipe

  • Parallel end guiding of all the caterpillars. The lower caterpillars must be set to the pipe diameter and the upper floating caterpillars are pressed onto the pipe pneumatically

 

 

Twin belt haul-offs
Suitable for small PO pipes with high production speeds

  • Highly wear-resistant haul-off belts

  • Parallel end guiding of the floating upper belt pressed onto the pipe pneumatically

 

Twin caterpillar haul-offs

for PVC pipes from small to medium diameters

  • Highly wear-resistant haul-off belts or V-shaped pads

  • Separate AC servo drive of upper and lower caterpillar

 

 

Cutting Units

Application criteria such as the pipe size and the question of whether the cut-off unit is to perform additional functions (such as chamfering) are the major criteria for the selection of the right cut-off unit. Other important factors are also the extrusion speed, cutting length, frequency of cut and cutting length precision.

Parallel Twin-Screw Extruders

Parallel twin-screw extruders play an important economic role in the high-performance extrusion of PVC profiles. BF has been consistently developing its machine technology to meet the ever-increasing market requirements for more product quality even when the profiles are made from cost-efficient PVC formulations. BF's extruders of today are already equipped with powerful drives which will help summon up torque reserves for future developments.

Conical Twin-Screw Extruders

  BF's active conical extruder was developed for medium to low output range. The special feature of this BF machine is its increasing flight depth for a higher output rate per screw revolution in the discharge area. Therefore, it combines the benefits of the parallel process technology with the machine design advantages of a conical gear concept.  

 

 

Calibration Systems

 

The optimum functionality of the extrusion line can only be ensured if the die, the calibrating unit and the cooling system perform as one unit. With BF's experience over decades, we can guarantee a trouble-free integration of all known tooling systems. Haul-Off Units

 

Caterpillar haul-offs are generally installed where high haul-off forces are demanded over the whole speed range. BF caterpillar haul-offs are employed with separate AC servo drive for each caterpillar to guarantee high haul-off forces and an even pulling even in the lower speed range. For smaller, high-speed production lots, BF offers belt haul-offs, with them highly abrasion-resistant poly-V belts are equipped.

Contracool® Extruders

BF's air cooled smooth bore extruders are designed to process a broad range of thermoplastic materials optimizing melt quality and throughput. Contracool® extruders are particularly useful for processing high melt temperature materials, offering low maintenance and lower initial and operating cost.

Dies

Every BF blown film die is manufactured from drop forged 42CrMo steel, hardened and stress relieved prior to CNC machining. These dies are dimensionally stable long after dies made of rolled plate steel have been scrapped. Each flow surface, including feed port passages, is electroless nickel plated to counter abrasion and corrosion.


 

Computer designed flow channels minimize polymer residence time in both oscillating and stationary BF's dies. This virtually eliminates gel problems and speeds product changes. BF's innovative taper lock self aligning design cuts downtime by permitting simple die cleaning at the processor's plant. Our easy to reach non-rotating dies minimize string-up and adjustment time.

 

 

Polycool Air Ring

The 900 Series Polycool dual lip air ring features a patented lip design which provides a converging air flow pattern between the blown film bubble and the air ring's forming cone. This design allows uniform air flow at high rates to provide exceptional cooling and stability without film chatter.

The 900 Series air ring is available as a fixed lip or adjustable lip design. The fixed lip offers simple operation and consistent performance, while the adjustable lip design offers the versatility needed by many specialties film producers.

 

Autoprofile Air Ring

The patented Autoprofile System works with any BF Chen series 800 or 900 Air Ring, directing temperature adjusted air to precise areas of the bubble wall. Thickness data from sensing devices monitoring the entire bubble wall is analyzed by the Extrol System Controller. Using closed loop control, Extrol instantly regulates the air temperature. Though it assures the flattest film in the industry, the Autoprofile takes no thermal or mechanical action on the die, making it significantly less expensive than less advanced alternatives.  

 

 

IBC Control System

Internal Bubble Cooling (IBC) is a well-established way to add up to 35% more throughput to a blown film line. IBC consists of cool air being supplied to the inside of the bubble through an internal air ring, and hot air being removed through and exhaust stack. Two variable speed blowers, and optional chiller coil, an air flow valve, and a digital layflat control system with ultrasonic sensors make up internal bubble cooling.

The heart of IBC is the layflat control system. Internal bubble cooling is a very dynamic process exchanging large volumes of air inside the blown film bubble. The layflat control system regulates blower speeds, trims air flow, and maintains film layflat within \0.1875" (\4.76mm) under normal conditions. By using multiple, fixed position sensors, the BF Chen system will compensate for sway or off-set bubble position as well as provide direct digital readout of film layflat and all IBC conditions.

 

 

 

Collapsing Frames

Our array of Collapsing Devices includes one perfectly matched to your film production. The BF Air Board Collapsing Frame uniformly cushions the film's total surface with measured air flow, virtually eliminating film drag. Our carbon fiber roller collapsers or slat collapsers with low-friction plastic, are lower cost alternatives that greatly reduce bagginess in the web caused by surface drag.   collapsing

 

 

Bubble Cage

BF's Bubble Stabilizing Cage is a vital component for optimum blown film bubble stability. Positioned between the die and collapsers, the bubble cage's segmented Teflon® rollers provide low friction contact surface, minimizing bubble drag and providing stability over a broad range of diameters. Bubble stability means tighter thickness and layflat control at higher throughput rates.  

 

 

124E Winders

  The Model 124E Winder is the industry standard for basic manual cut dual turret center winders. It offers shafted or (optional) shaftless operation to wind rolls up to 610mm diameter. It is designed to wind sheeting or tubing in a wide variety of applications.

1021 Winders

 

The Model 1021 Surface Winder is a durable, shafted surface winder capable of winding multiple rolls up to 1016mm in diameter. Manufactured to meet converter quality requirements for winding sheeting or tubing, this winder incorporates an infeed nip, fully automatic cutover, and hydraulic unloading arms as standard features to provide excellent roll quality.
